Welcome to the ENN

The European Narratology Network (ENN) is an association of individual narratologists and narratological institutions. Our focus is predominantly, but not exclusively, 'European' in the sense of

  • our object domain: narrative representation in literature, film, digital media, etc. across all European languages and cultures;
  • our institutional affiliation: universities, research institutions and interest groups based in one of the European countries.

During the 1st Conference of the ENN, 'Mind-Narrative-Ethics', held at Hamburg University on 23 and 24 January 2009, a Constitution was unanimously adopted by the members of the ENN present. The Constitution, setting out the ENN's objectives and rules of operation, can be consulted here.

The meeting also elected three members to serve on the Steering Committee:

- Per Krogh Hansen (University of Southern Denmark);
- John Pier (University of Tours and CRAL-CNRS Paris);
- Wolf Schmid (Hamburg University).

It was decided among them that Wolf Schmid will act as Chairman, Per Krogh Hansen as Treasurer and John Pier as Secretary.

The Steering Committee also chose to co-opt three ENN members:

- Tomáš Kubíček (Czech Academy of Sciences);
- Jan Christoph Meister (Hamburg University);
- Susana Onega (University of Zaragoza).

Co-opted members will further the aims of the ENN by acting as ambassadors, carrying out specific missions of interest to the organisation, participating in the organisation of conferences, etc.

Decisions of general interest to the members of the ENN taken by the Steering Committee as well as announcements and other information concerning the life of the association will be posted on the ENN Website.
