Narratological interest

Cinema of Concience – M.A. Thesis.
Examination of humanist (socio – political) films; their origin purpose and meaning.

The purpose of this thesis is to explore the emergence of cinema of conscience worldwide. To date it has not been fully defined by theorists. I wish to establish the basic values and ideological stance, in the creation of this form of cinema.

The philosophy of secular humanism, embraces human reason, ethics, social justice and philosophical naturalism, while specifically rejecting religious dogma, supernaturalism, pseudoscience or superstition as the basis of morality and ethical reasoning.
This subject will be explore via. 1. Narrative point of view. 2. Cultural imperialism. 3. Structuralism. 4. Semiotics. 5. Literary narratives into film.
The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate the ideological and commercial forces on film narrative and the dilution of socio – political issues through narration, for the purposes of ‘entertainment’.
