CFP: Presence - "Being there" in Fictional Worlds

May 29th, 2015
University of Turku (Finland)
Deadline for Proposals: January 30th, 2015

Keynote Speakers:
Prof. Ros Ballaster (Oxford)
Prof. Susan S. Lanser (Brandeis)

The notion that literary works can draw their readers into storyworlds, giving them a sense of "being there" with the characters and experiencing the plights and pleasures that authors craft, has risen to new importance in recent years. Papers are invited that consider how such "presence" plays out in both cognitive and cultural terms (with particular respect to historical change, gender issues and transmediality).
