Narratological interest

My narratological interests center on the analysis of political and presidential rhetoric, particularly how narrative techniques are employed to construct authority, evoke intimacy, and shape collective memory. I focus on Mann Ki Baat, the Indian Prime Minister’s monthly radio address, as a rich site of narrative performance where personal anecdotes, mythic references, and nation-building stories converge to craft a persuasive public persona. I am interested in how such narrative strategies blur boundaries between the personal and the political, and how voice, focalization, and temporality are used to manage affect and consensus. More broadly, I examine how state-led narratives function rhetorically across media platforms, and how they are received, reinterpreted, or contested by citizens. My approach combines classical narratology with contemporary rhetorical and media theory to better understand the performative dimensions of storytelling in governance.
